Panel 1: In the daylight lantern room, Elias leans over an open journal beside the great brass lens. Caption: The last entry has a second line, buried in the fold. Panel 2: Elias studies a weathered journal held open in his hands. The caption repeats the visible handwritten entry. Day 45: Three knocks. A pause. Three more. Every time the beam comes round. Panel 3: Elias stands beside the lens, looking toward its mechanism. Elias: It wasn't asking to come in. Elias: It was answering the light. Panel 4: Elias turns toward the open stairwell inside the lantern room. Daylight remains visible through the windows. Caption: Three knocks rise through the floor. Elias: But it's daylight.
