Lizzie rides home from the estate a different person than the one who left, Darcy's letter reordering every memory she was sure of — George's warm, wounded coffee-shop story now reading as a con, Darcy's cold warnings now reading as the truth she got backwards. At home she finally tells Jane: she was wrong about both men, George lied about everything, and one piece of the truth isn't hers to repeat, so they'll say nothing and just watch. Then the militia crowd throws its going-away bash and Lizzie has to face George one last time. He fishes about her visit to the estate; she, finally armored, tells him she's 'heard both sides now,' and for one flat second the easy warmth drops off his face before the hollow charm snaps back and he melts into the departing crowd. But the danger doesn't leave with him: Lydia announces she's been invited to follow the whole crew to the coast for the summer, thrilled and oblivious, and when Lizzie begs her father to stop it he waves it off with a dry 'Lydia will be a cheaper fool away than at home.' Underneath the Wickham of it all, Jane sees the heavier thing Lizzie is carrying — Darcy. Lizzie admits it: she met a genuinely good man and told him he was the last man alive she'd ever want, and the woman who prides herself on reading people got the only two that mattered completely wrong. The chapter closes at her dark window, the opened letter in her hands: she will never see him again, and only now does she wish she would.

ページ 1

Two stacked panels on a train home in shifting cool-to-warm light. Top: Lizzie sits by the window in her olive-green jacket, a thick opened cream letter resting in her lap, staring out at the countryside, hollow and pensive. Thought bubble: 'I've read that letter three times. I still can't unread it.' Bottom: a close-up on Lizzie's eyes as she quietly reassesses everything she was sure of.

ページ 2

A dense six-panel memory montage. 1) Sepia memory: Wickham over coffee, warm and wounded, telling his sob story — but drawn a touch too smooth now. 2) Present: Lizzie on the train, eyes narrowing as the memory curdles. 3) Cool memory: Darcy at the dance, guarded, giving his quiet warning. 4) Present: Lizzie, the warning landing correctly this time, stricken. 5) Memory: Darcy sternly shutting a door on a faltering Wickham — he stopped him. 6) Present: close on Lizzie, the whole picture inverting, quietly devastated. The narration threads through: Darcy made sure I got nothing / You took a payout. Then came back for more. / Be careful whose story you believe. / You were warning me. I called it guilt. / He went after Darcy's teenage sister. Darcy stopped him. / I got both of them exactly backwards.

ページ 3

Two stacked panels in the warm, golden-lit Bennet home. Top: Lizzie steps in the front door with a shoulder bag; Jane rises from the couch, gentle and glad. Jane: 'You're back! How was Charlotte?' Bottom: close on Lizzie managing a tired smile that doesn't reach her eyes. Lizzie: 'Charlotte's... fine. It was a long trip.'

ページ 4

Six panels in the warm Bennet bedroom at night, the two sisters close on the bed. Lizzie, raw, confesses; Jane listens. Lizzie: 'Jane. I have to tell you something. I got it all wrong.' Jane: 'Wrong about what?' Lizzie: 'Darcy. And George. George lied to me. About everything.' Jane, one hand at her chest: 'George? He seemed so...' Lizzie, a bitter half-laugh: 'Warm. Easy. Wounded. I know. That's the whole trick.' Jane, gently taking Lizzie's hand in both of hers: 'And Darcy?'

ページ 5

Four panels, warm bedroom at night. Lizzie wrestles with what she can and can't say. Lizzie: 'Darcy told the truth. All of it. And one part isn't mine to repeat.' Jane, gently practical: 'Then shouldn't we warn people about George?' Lizzie, shaking her head, pained: 'We'd have to explain how we know. It would hurt someone innocent.' Jane nods a sad agreement. Jane: 'So we say nothing. And just... watch.'

ページ 6

Three panels in the warm Bennet kitchen next morning. 1) Mrs. Bennet sweeps in mid-lament in her floral blouse and beaded necklace, a phone held with its back to the reader. Mrs. Bennet: 'Two matches lost! Bingley gone, Collins taken by CHARLOTTE!' 2) Lizzie and Jane exchange a flat look over their coffee mugs. Lizzie: 'Good morning to you too, Mom.' 3) Mrs. Bennet flops into a chair, one hand to her forehead. Mrs. Bennet: 'My nerves cannot survive this family.'

ページ 7

Two stacked panels in a bright town square by day. Top: a wide establishing shot of a lively going-away gathering — packed vans, a crowd of young people leaving town for the summer, plain balloons and bunting. Bottom: Lizzie stands at the edge, arms crossed, steeling herself. Thought bubble: 'One more conversation with him. Then he's gone.'

ページ 8

Two stacked panels in the bright town square. Top: in the departing crowd, Lydia laughs and hangs on Wickham's arm amid his friends, thrilled and oblivious. Bottom: Lizzie watches from a distance, unease tightening her face now that she knows the truth about George. Thought bubble: 'And Lydia's headed straight for his crowd.'

ページ 9

Four panels, bright town square. 1) Wickham strolls up to Lizzie with an easy crooked grin. Wickham: 'Lizzie! I heard you were out at the de Bourgh estate.' 2) Wickham, fishing, casual: 'Darcy was there too, wasn't he? How was our Mr. Darcy?' 3) Lizzie, cool and unreadable, arms crossed with a small even smile: 'Illuminating, actually.' 4) Wickham, a flicker of wariness under the grin: '...Illuminating.'

ページ 10

Four panels, bright town square. 1) Lizzie, calm and pointed, holding his gaze with arms crossed: 'I've heard both sides of your story now, George.' 2) Close on Wickham, the warmth freezing, the mask slipping, eyes going flat. 3) Lizzie, unbothered, a small even smile: 'Both were very... detailed.' 4) Wickham recovers the grin, but it's hollow now, easing back half a step: 'People do love to talk.'

ページ 11

Two stacked panels, bright town square. Top: Wickham gives a light, hollow two-finger salute-wave and turns to go, his charm gone brittle. Wickham: 'Take care, Lizzie. Really.' Bottom: Lizzie watches him melt into the departing crowd, cold clarity on her face. Thought bubble: 'Goodbye, George.'

ページ 12

Three panels in the warm Bennet living room. 1) Lydia bursts in, thrilled, a phone held with its back to the reader. Lydia: 'Guess what! The whole crew invited me to the coast for the summer!' 2) Lizzie, alarmed, sitting up. Lizzie: 'The crew. You mean George's crowd.' 3) Lydia, gleeful and oblivious: 'Obviously! It's going to be the BEST summer.'

ページ 13

Three panels in Mr. Bennet's warm, lamplit study. 1) Lizzie leans in, serious; Mr. Bennet reads behind a book, glasses up, brown cardigan. Lizzie: 'Dad, don't let Lydia go. That crowd is trouble.' 2) Mr. Bennet, dry and unbothered, lowering the book an inch: 'Lydia will be a fool wherever she is. At least away, she's a cheaper fool.' 3) Lizzie, uneasy and not reassured, glancing away: 'That's not a no.'

ページ 14

Two stacked panels, warm Bennet bedroom in the evening. Top: Jane studies Lizzie, gently perceptive. Jane: 'You keep going quiet. It isn't George, is it.' Bottom: Lizzie looks away, caught out. Lizzie: 'No. It isn't.'

ページ 15

Four panels, warm bedroom at night. 1) Lizzie finally says it, quiet and pained: 'I met a good man. And I told him he was the last man alive I'd ever want.' 2) Jane, soft and careful: '...Darcy.' 3) Lizzie, a broken little laugh at herself: 'I was so sure I could read people. I read the two who mattered completely wrong.' Jane: 'You didn't know.' 4) Jane gently takes Lizzie's hand; Lizzie lets her. Lizzie: 'I did know. I just wanted to be right.'

ページ 16

Two stacked panels, quiet warm night in Lizzie's bedroom. Top: Lizzie stands at her dark window, Darcy's thick opened cream letter held in both hands, the small warm town lights glowing below the glass. Bottom: a close-up on Lizzie, a new ache in her face — a regret she cannot undo. Thought bubble: 'I'll never see him again. And now I finally want to.'
