Two panels set in a long, arched greenhouse corridor at night. In the top panel, a man with a lantern stands near a woman who is hanging a cloth bag on a door marked '8'. In the bottom panel, the woman crouches alone outside a door marked '9', holding a ring of keys and looking at glowing blue ripples on the floor. Visible text, in reading order: Wren: A tidy night's work. Fern: Less tidy. Better work. Fern: Room Nine. Fern: Why can I hear a bell underwater?

关于本章

A leaf rising at Room Eight leads Fern and Wren to a tray that refuses to be cleared away. Hidden silk cocoons reveal that the dead night watchman was keeping a promise to his winter guests. With Ida's memory to guide them, they move the undisturbed tray to a cool, sheltered corner rather than a shredder or a heated glasshouse. The watchman lets go when care means leaving something alone. Back in the corridor, rippling water carries a bell from Room Nine.
