Wide night shot of a convenience store; a tired clerk, Kaito, stands behind the register beside Rin, a small lucky cat waving on the counter.
Close-ups of the lucky cat's paw stopping mid-wave while Rin lowers her hand from it; Kaito notices with dread.
Kaito flicks the lucky cat's raised paw; it swings up then hangs dead as he stares, deadpan.
Kaito holds the lucky cat up, insisting it's an omen; Rin says it's a battery and starts livestreaming.
The tracksuit regular enters; Kaito asks if the cat ever stopped before and is told it's been broken for years.
Kaito nudges the cat's paw again; it drops dead as he stares flat, Rin filming behind him.
Kaito tries everything to revive the cat — blowing on it, warming it, checking its base — as Rin narrates flatly.
Kaito sits on a stool behind the counter at eye level with the silent lucky cat, talking to it.
A drunk salaryman panics that the cat died and lunges for it; Kaito shields it and holds him off.
The salaryman leaves still shouting 'cursed'; Kaito sets the cat back and stares at its dead paw in silence.
Kaito nudges the cat's paw one more time; it drops dead as he stares, hollow and drained.
Kaito phones head office about the cat and is put on hold; a jogger says the cats do nothing; Rin deadpans.
Rin lowers her phone and admits Kaito's the only one who'd do this, then raises it again.
At faint dawn Kaito sets the cat upright with a small bow and a worn smile, finally giving up.
As Kaito turns away, the cat's paw lifts and waves on its own; he whirls back, overjoyed.
Rin reveals she pulled the cat's battery at ten and put it back when he gave up; Kaito is stunned.
Rin's stream has hundreds of thousands watching; the cat waves happily while Kaito reaches for it, empty.
Morning daylight fills the same store; the cat has frozen mid-wave again as Rin raises her phone.

3 A.M., rain on the dead-hours store. The little ceramic beckoning cat that has waved on the counter for years freezes mid-wave with a soft click. Kaito — unable to bear a lucky cat that has stopped, certain a still maneki-neko means the store's luck has died before the morning delivery — declares quiet war on one plastic paw and resolves to get it waving again before his shift ends, spiraling all night over whether luck is a thing a cat can even hold. All night he flicks the paw to the identical dead-eyed beat of it swinging up and dropping dead as he mutters '...stopped.' A ladder of night-shift regulars each deliver a verdict nobody can verify: the tracksuit regular says it's been broken for years, a drunk salaryman swears a dead lucky cat means the store is cursed and lunges to grab it, a cheerful jogger insists the cats don't do anything at all. Kaito escalates through warming it, dismantling it, and head office's hold line, while Rin quietly livestreams the whole vigil as 'Reviving the Lucky Cat,' with one flicker of near-sincerity — that he's the only person alive who'd lose a night so a plastic cat doesn't feel unlucky — before raising her phone again. Near dawn, hollow and defeated, Kaito finally gives up, sets the cat upright with a small bow and hands off — and the paw lifts and waves on its own, the running beat inverting into pure elation. Then the reveal Rin planted in the first minute pays off: she popped the cat's single battery out on camera at ten o'clock to see how long the superstition would haunt him, and slipped it back the instant he quit, so his six-hour war did nothing — the cat revived because she reset it. Her 'Reviving the Lucky Cat — six hours' hits four hundred thousand viewers; all the luck went to her. Kaito gets nothing, not even credit for the wave. Dawn light fills the spotless store exactly as the night began — and the cat's paw freezes mid-wave again with a soft click, Rin's phone already raised, already live.

第 1 頁

A single wide establishing panel. Deep night inside a 24-hour Japanese convenience store, rain streaking the dark windows and an empty street beyond. Kaito (name tag KAITO), a tired clerk with messy black hair and eyebags in a striped store apron, stands slouched behind the register. Rin (name tag RIN), a small teenager in a hoodie under her apron with one earbud in and a phone in hand, leans on the counter beside him. On the counter a small pale ceramic beckoning cat (maneki-neko) waves its raised paw. Kaito: "Dead quiet. Just how I like it."

第 2 頁

Three panels. Panel 1: a tight shot of the counter; the little ceramic lucky cat waves, and Rin's fingers are just leaving its base with a tiny object pinched between them as she raises her phone. Rin: "huh." Panel 2: an extreme close-up of the cat's raised paw frozen dead at the top of its arc, motionless. Panel 3: Kaito's tired eyes cut sideways to the still cat, a bead of sweat forming as dread sets in. Kaito: "...it stopped." Kaito (thinking): "The cat stopped waving."

第 3 頁

Two panels establishing the chapter's running gag. Panel 1: Kaito reaches out one finger and flicks the raised paw of the ceramic lucky cat; the paw swings upward with small motion lines. Panel 2: the paw has dropped and hangs dead and still. Kaito stares at it dead-eyed and exhausted, a single drop of sweat at his temple. Kaito: "...stopped."

第 4 頁

Four panels. Panel 1: Kaito holds the ceramic lucky cat up in both hands at eye level, deadly serious. Kaito: "A lucky cat that stops waving stops the luck." Panel 2: Rin, half-lidded and unbothered, raises her phone. Rin: "It's a battery." Panel 3: Kaito leans in, grim, the cat cradled in his hands. Kaito: "It's an omen. Right before the morning delivery." Panel 4: Rin turns her phone to film the still cat on the counter, a tiny smirk on her face. Rin: "'Reviving the Lucky Cat.' We're live."

第 5 頁

Four panels. Panel 1: the sliding doors open and the tracksuit regular — a tall man with a shaved head, grey zip-up tracksuit, and a clear plastic bag of empty cans — steps in from the rainy dark. Panel 2: Kaito leans over the counter holding the still lucky cat toward him, earnest and desperate. Kaito: "Has this cat ever stopped before?" Panel 3: the regular shrugs, barely glancing at it. Regular: "That thing? Broken for years." Panel 4: Kaito freezes, stunned, cradling the cat, as Rin films behind him. Kaito (thinking): "...years?"

第 6 頁

Two panels repeating the running gag. Panel 1: Kaito nudges the raised paw of the lucky cat again and it swings up with faint motion lines while Rin stands behind him on her phone. Panel 2: the paw drops dead and still; Kaito stares at it dead-eyed, worn down, a bead of sweat at his brow, framed exactly as before. Kaito: "...stopped."

第 7 頁

Six panels of escalating attempts. Panel 1: Kaito bends close and blows on the cat's still paw, cheeks puffed. Panel 2: he cups the cat near the hot-food warmth. Kaito: "Warm it up. Maybe it's cold." Panel 3: he taps the cat's base rapidly with a fingertip. Panel 4: he holds the cat upside down at eye level, squinting at its plain underside. Kaito: "...no screws. No switch. Nothing." Panel 5: Rin films, flat and bored. Rin: "He's been at this an hour." Panel 6: the cat is set down, paw still dead; Kaito hunches over it, sweating, quietly pleading. Kaito: "Come on. Wave."

第 8 頁

A single quiet panel. Kaito sits on a low stool behind the counter, elbows on his knees, brought down to eye level with the silent ceramic lucky cat that sits facing him on the counter. Rain runs down the dark windows behind them and the fluorescent light hums. The two seem to regard each other in the empty store. Kaito: "Just wave. That's all you do."

第 9 頁

Four panels. Panel 1: the sliding doors open and a rumpled drunk salaryman with a loose tie staggers in from the rain. Panel 2: he spots the still cat, points, and sways, alarmed. Salaryman: "Your cat died?! This place is cursed!" Panel 3: he lunges to grab the cat; Kaito blocks him, shielding the little cat with his hands. Salaryman: "Give it here, I'll fix it!" Panel 4: Kaito holds the swaying man off at arm's length, deadpan, the cat safe behind his other hand, as Rin films. Kaito: "Please don't manhandle the omen."

第 10 頁

Three panels. Panel 1: the drunk salaryman is waved toward the doors, still pointing back accusingly. Salaryman: "Cursed, I'm telling you!" Panel 2: Kaito carefully sets the lucky cat back in its spot on the counter and exhales. Kaito: "...it's not cursed." Panel 3: a silent close-up of Kaito's flat, dead-eyed face staring down at the cat's motionless paw, a single bead of sweat, no dialogue.

第 11 頁

Two panels, the running gag at its lowest point. Panel 1: Kaito nudges the raised paw of the lucky cat once more with hollow determination while Rin stands behind him on her phone. Panel 2: the paw drops dead and still again; Kaito looks utterly hollow and drained, dead-eyed, a bead of sweat at his brow. Kaito: "...stopped."

第 12 頁

Six panels of escalation. Panel 1: Kaito paces behind the counter clutching the cat, wild-eyed. Kaito: "Maybe it's not the battery. Maybe it's me." Panel 2: he holds the store's beige landline handset to his ear, the cat beside him. Kaito: "Yes — the store's lucky cat. It stopped waving." Panel 3: he waits on hold, handset to ear, staring blankly. Panel 4: a cheerful jogger leans in the open doorway from the rain, grinning. Jogger: "Those cats don't actually do anything, y'know!" Panel 5: Kaito, betrayed, handset still to his ear. Kaito: "...they put the cat on hold." Panel 6: Rin films, perfectly deadpan. Rin: "Head office put the cat on hold."

第 13 頁

Four panels, Rin's flicker of near-sincerity. Panel 1: Rin lowers her phone for the first time, actually looking over at Kaito, her flat face softening. Panel 2: Kaito slumps over the counter, still gently trying the cat's paw with one finger. Kaito: "Someone has to." Panel 3: Rin gives him a small, genuine look. Rin: "You're the only guy who'd lose a night so a plastic cat doesn't feel unlucky." Panel 4: she raises the phone back up, flat and unbothered again, a tiny smirk. Rin: "...kind of sweet. Anyway."

第 14 頁

A single panel. Faint dawn grays the rainy windows behind the counter. Kaito, hollow but finally calm, sets the ceramic lucky cat upright with both hands and gives it a tiny respectful bow, hands off, a serene worn-out almost-smile on his face — surrender at last. Kaito: "...okay. You win. Rest."

第 15 頁

Three panels, the running gag inverted. Panel 1: Kaito turns away from the counter and reaches for his coat, done for the night, shoulders low. Panel 2: behind his back the lucky cat's paw lifts and waves on its own, clear motion lines — the exact running-beat framing, but the paw is up and moving. Panel 3: Kaito whirls around, eyes huge with awe and elation, both hands flying up, the perfect inversion of his dead-eyed beat. Kaito: "...it's waving!"

第 16 頁

Four panels, the reveal. Panel 1: Rin holds her blank-screened phone toward Kaito, flat and smug. Rin: "Wanna know when it 'died'?" Panel 2: an inset flashback — earlier that night, Rin's fingers pop a single small battery out of the base of the same lucky cat while she films, bored. Panel 3: she holds the tiny battery up between two fingers, deadpan. Rin: "Pulled the battery at ten. Put it back when you gave up." Panel 4: Kaito freezes in hollow horror while the lucky cat waves cheerfully beside him. Kaito: "...six hours."

第 17 頁

Three panels, the payoff. Panel 1: Rin, faintly triumphant, raises her phone. Rin: "'Reviving the Lucky Cat.' Four hundred thousand watching." Panel 2: the lucky cat waves merrily on the counter while Kaito stares at it, empty-handed and hollow. Panel 3: Kaito reaches one hand toward the happily waving cat as Rin has already turned away to film her outro. Kaito (thinking): "It's waving. And it was never me."

第 18 頁

A single wide panel mirroring page one, now in full morning daylight — the rain has stopped and bright light fills the spotless, empty store, a quiet street beyond the windows. Kaito stands slouched and wrung out behind the register exactly where he began. On the counter the ceramic lucky cat has just frozen mid-wave again, and Rin already has her phone raised at it, filming. Rin: "...huh. It stopped again." Kaito: "...no."
