Report copyright infringement
Use the report form (you need to be signed in), or email us — no account needed.
This policy explains how Inkroost handles notices about work that infringes copyright. It follows the EU Digital Services Act and the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and it forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. How to report
- The report form: Report copyright / DMCA. You can also use the Report button on any series.
- Email: copyright@inkroost.com. Anyone can write to this address, whether or not they have an Inkroost account.
You can send a notice yourself or through someone you have authorised, such as a lawyer or agent.
2. What your notice must include
So we can act on it, a notice needs all of the following:
- Your contact details: your full name and email address, and your postal address and phone number.
- The work you own: what was copied — for example the title of your comic, book or artwork, and a link to where you publish it. If several works are involved, list them all.
- Where it is on Inkroost: the exact web address (URL) of each series, chapter or page, and what in it copies your work (for example page numbers or panels).
- Why it infringes: a short explanation of why this use copies your work without permission.
- A good-faith statement: "I believe in good faith that the use of the material described above is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law."
- An accuracy statement: "The information in this notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the owner."
- Your signature: handwritten or electronic. Typing your full name is enough.
If something is missing we will ask you for it, but we may not be able to act until the notice is complete.
Before you send a notice, please consider whether the use could be allowed — for example as parody, pastiche, quotation or commentary.
3. What we do with a notice
- We confirm that we received it and review it promptly, carefully and objectively. A person reviews every notice; decisions are not made by software alone.
- If the notice is valid, we remove the material or disable access to it — a page, a chapter or a whole series.
- We tell the creator what was removed and why: which notice it was based on, what we decided, and how they can object. We also tell you what we decided.
- We may send a copy of your notice to the creator, including your name and contact details, so they can respond or sort it out with you directly.
4. If your work was removed: how to object
If you think we removed your work by mistake — for example because it is your own, you have permission, or the use is allowed by law — reply to our message or email copyright@inkroost.com within six months of our decision. Objecting is free. Please include:
- Your full name, email address, postal address and phone number.
- What was removed and the URL where it appeared before it was removed.
- Why you think the removal was a mistake.
- A statement that, under penalty of perjury, you believe in good faith that the material was removed or disabled by mistake or because it was misidentified.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district where your address is (or, if your address is outside the United States, any judicial district in which Inkroost may be found), and that you will accept service of legal papers from the person who sent the notice, or their agent.
- Your signature: handwritten or electronic. Typing your full name is enough.
Points 4 and 5 are what a US DMCA counter-notice requires. If you only want us to review our decision, points 1 to 3 and your signature are enough.
A person who was not involved in the first decision reviews your objection. If we agree the removal was wrong, we restore the material without delay. When we receive a complete DMCA counter-notice, we send a copy to the person who sent the notice and restore the material 10 to 14 business days later, unless they tell us they have started a court case to stop the infringement. You can always take the matter to a court.
5. Repeat infringers
We keep a record of valid notices against each account. Accounts that repeatedly post work that infringes copyright are closed. In a serious case we may close an account after a single notice.
6. Misuse of notices
Please only send a notice for work you own or represent. Under US law, someone who knowingly sends a false notice or counter-notice can be liable for damages. If a person or organisation often sends notices that are clearly unfounded, we may, after a warning, stop handling their notices for a period of time.
